‘Volunteer Voices’, documents the diversity of Liverpool Food Growers Network. Hellen Songa shares their article for Gal-dem magazine with us.

Hellen Songa is a photographic journalist with Zambian and Rwandan ethno-background, currently based in Liverpool.

With a focus on the relationship between civilians and the powers that be, they seek to further explore social themes pertaining to environmentalism, climate justice and food sovereignty as well as ideas related to community and tribal organising.

Hellen recently wrote an article for Gal-Dem magazine discussing their project Volunteer Voices, the impact of community growing in Liverpool and the power of community growing spaces.

“Living with no land of our own to cultivate was hard, especially given that my family had owned farms in Rwanda and Zambia.”

“Liverpool Food Growers Network has connected dozens of agriculture groups in the city, and helped shine a light on projects in unexpected places.”
